Digital Creative Strategy Rework

Overview and Key Challenge

As the strategic digital lead for Panadol’s Masterbrand program, my objective was to communicate the new global message, “Relief Starts Here,” in a way that resonated with consumers worldwide. However, we faced creative challenges early on, particularly in representing Panadol’s broad moderate pain-relief applications (headaches, backaches, period pain, etc.) in a way that was adaptable for various digital touchpoints and personalized for each stage of the consumer journey.

My Contribution

Despite pressure from the wider team to move forward with early iterations of the digital creative concept, I made the call to pause production eight weeks before launch, recognizing that we needed additional time to refine our approach. Partnering with global stakeholders—including insights teams, creative strategists, and regional marketing leads—I led workshops and brainstorming sessions to ensure our core idea addressed the full spectrum of pain relief needs in a way that would resonate globally.

The creative assets, rigorously tested pre-release, scored in the “dark green” range on MetrixLab’s creative testing for message retention, emotional engagement, and breakthrough potential. These early successes formed the foundation for Panadol’s global digital creative strategy, enabling us to scale 250+ digital assets across 100+ markets, all unified under the “Relief Starts Here” banner.

Most Effective Advertising 2020

Panadol ActiFast
No Time for a Headache

Overview and Key Challenge

The 2020 Panadol ActiFast campaign was developed for the Southeast Asia market, specifically Malaysia which is a key market for the brand. The campaign idea and creative assets were developed with TV as the lead channel in mind, with digital planned after the TV creative was produced. The original TV storytelling was not appropriate for digital channels (YouTube, Facebook) where stories need to be told as quickly and as early as possible. The marketing and agency team struggled with re-purposing the TV creatives to impactful digital assets which could work effectively across touchpoints and the consumer journey.

My Contribution

Brought in during the late stages of digital creative development, I was tasked with addressing the challenges of adapting the TV creative for digital — where the bulk of advertising dollars would be spent. Partnering with the marketing director leading the campaign, I conducted a frame-by-frame review of the TV storyboard, restructured the story arc, and introduced creative tactics like fast cuts and sound effects amongst others, to capture attention immediately in digital formats. This revised edit not only tested exceptionally well with consumers but was ultimately chosen as the final TV creative.

This campaign went on to receive the Kantar 2020 Top 20 Most Effective Advertisements award — a true testament to my ability to tackle creative challenges head-on and deliver impactful, distinctive and effective digital work.
